On 6th April 2024, the right to request flexible working will become a day-one right for all employees. There will be no requirement for employees to have 26 weeks continuous employment.
Previously, employers needed to acknowledge the flexible working application and meet with the individual, and provide an outcome to whether the application was accepted or rejected. They are now required to ensure that they make sure they explore alternative options before rejecting an application.
There is also no longer a requirement for the employee to provide detail of how their request will impact on the business.
Under these changes, employees can now make up to two flexible working requests in any 12-month period.
If you have an HR policy and flexible working requesting form, you will need to ensure both of these are updated.
