We are all wondering can we or should be go on holiday? What happens to us if we do? Can our employer ask us to take time off work to self-isolate? Will we get paid if we are in self-isolation?
Employees will have to provide a UK address where they will isolate for 10/14 days. They are not permitted to leave their home, go to the shops, take their children to school. Complete isolation.
However, if employees are arriving from Northern Ireland, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, they won’t have to isolate.
Are there any exemptions?
Front line workers, such as medical professionals, foreign diplomats, people working for defence for the Government, fruit pickers and employees that travel for work regularly will be exempt for self-isolating.
See further information on exemptions.
Do our employees have to self isolate or can they do homeworking?
Yes, they can do homeworking. As long as they are not in contact with others and they are self-isolating.
Do employers have to pay the employee when they are self-isolating?
If employees cannot work from home as there is not sufficient work, then the employer can ask them to take annual leave. If they have used up all their annual leave, the employer can process it as unpaid leave.
