Once an organisation is established, it can be very hard to keep the same culture that it began with. Often very different personalities, skills sets and personal agendas can change things, but not always for the better.

It is essential for the success of any organisation for there to be a culture of positivity, where people are supported and developed, where employees can thrive and an organisation that people want to work for.

To achieve this, organisations need to do regular reviews of their organisation and bring it back into check where needed.

Here’s 5 top tips to ensure you change your organisation’s culture to what it needs to be

1. Encourage communication to be open

Encourage an open communication culture where your employees feel that they can share their ideas and concerns. Provide regular feedback mechanisms, such as surveys (staff satisfaction), one-one discussions etc which will help facilitate open and transparent communication and will ensure that employees feel they have been heard and valued by their employer.

2. Be an example to your employees

Values and behaviours exist in organisations even if they aren’t obvious. Values are beliefs that individuals and organisations believe are considered important, such as a set of actions or reactions by individuals that demonstrate the values.

For example, the value ‘trust’ can be demonstrated by:

  • management demonstrating consistency and fairness
  • colleagues keeping promises and commitment
  • communicating openly and transparently

Organisations with positive work environments, have their leaders management displaying the good behaviours all the time.

3. Invest in developing your employees

Give opportunities for employees to grow and learn. Offer training programs, mentorship opportunities, and career advancement paths to empower employees and show that their development is valued.

4. Recognise and reward positive behaviours

Acknowledge and celebrate employees who illuminate the desired cultural traits. Let them know their contribution to the values and behaviours is welcomed. Design reward and recognition schemes that reinforce the values and behaviours you are looking for within your culture, such as accountability, teamwork, trust, respect and support.

5. Have meaningful conversations, actively listening to others, and participating in activities that promote inclusivity and community building as ways to foster a sense of belonging

Create a supportive, inclusive, respectful and connected environment where employees will excel and feel valued. Encourage diversity and inclusion initiatives, promote collaboration and support.

Creating a culture full of the right values and behaviours, is what we do.
